EANES Board Approves $5-$7 Million Multi-Use Facility

In what is being called a unique agreement, the EANES ISD board of trustees, in partnership with a private group, has approved the construction of a 60,000-70,000 square foot multi-use athletic facility to be built in Westlake.

The multi-purpose complex will cover nearly six acres of district property known as the Shriner tract, which is adjacent to Westlake High School.  The new Westlake Athletic and Community Center (WAC) will include five to six regulation basketball courts, 10-11 volleyball courts and an indoor turf area.  The facility could also house an aquatic center in the future.

Some Westlake residents have objected to the construction project, saying similar proposals have all been defeated as bonds in the past. EISD board of trustees vice president Beau Ross was quoted in a recent Community Impact article saying that that voters turned down a proposal that would have cost area residents money. According to Ross this agreement with WAC is at no cost to the district for construction.
